Princess Aribert visits the White House

June 9, 1900

Princess Aribert of Anhalt, who is traveling here in America as the Countess of Munsterberg, was this afternoon "received by President and Mrs. McKinley in the Red Room of the White House," according to the New York Times. The only other persons present were the British Ambassador and Lady Paunceforte, and Fraulein von Chappius, who is the Princess' traveling companion. The princess was given a tour of the Executive Mansion, which she had requested in advance, and she "especially admired the portrait of Washington which adorns the East Room." Although she "viewed the preparation for the band concert from the south portico of the mansion," she did not stay for the concert.
Tonight, the Princess was the guest of honor at a small dinner party hosted by Lord and Lady Paunceforte. Tomorrow she will leave for Niagara Falls and Canada, where she will be the guest of Lord and Lady Minto.
